Basics of Theatre Directing

Saturday, October 24, 2026

Ever wondered what it takes to bring a play from the page to the stage?

Join experienced actor, director and arts leader Chris King for a practical introduction to the art of directing for the stage.

Drawing on more than five decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Chris will explore the director’s role throughout the entire production process. From choosing and analysing a script and developing a creative vision, through to planning and running auditions, casting your production, working with actors, blocking scenes and bringing all the elements of a show together.

You’ll explore what a director should look for in an audition, how to get the best from performers in the room, how to make casting decisions, and how to build a productive, creative rehearsal environment with your chosen cast.

Perfect for performers considering a move into directing, emerging directors looking to build their skills, or anyone curious about what happens on the other side of the rehearsal room.

No directing experience is necessary. Come ready to explore, ask questions and discover how a director takes a production from the first audition to opening night.

Tickets $15.
