Artist Challenge…”My Favourite Things”

Glenn Mabbott bird paintings

Every year Art At Work exhibiting artists are invited to enter a work into the Artsit Challenge competition. The theme for 2022 is “My Favourite Things”. The entries are as varied in subject as they are in style.

Please Feed the Birds by Glenn Mabbott is an acrylic on canvas tryptich. Glenn explains
“every morning my favourite things appear at my kitchen window, reminding me with song and stare it’s time to be fed. Each afternoon the performance is repeated. With the arrival of Spring, a fresh cohort of young birds are introduced to the Chez Mabbott Dining experience by their mums. I am more than happy to feed my growing flock of feathered friends.”

Artist Judy Kich’s entry, Emerald Courts and Sapphire Skies is an abstract acrylic on canvas.

Emerald Courts and Sapphire Skies

“For me, this present world is the temporary and the reality is yet to come. This hope is my ‘favourite thing’. It is what I come back to time and time again when all around seems hopeless.

This work was inspired by a favourite song about my real home. One day I will be in this perfect place where nothing is broken and there is no more sadness…”

There is a higher throne than all this world has known
Where faithful ones from every tongue will one day come
Before the Son we’ll stand made faultless through the Lamb
Believing hearts find promised grace… salvation comes
Hear heaven’s voices sing their thunderous anthem rings
Through emerald courts and sapphire skies their praises rise
All glory, wisdom, power, strength,
thanks and honour are to God our King
who reigns on high for evermore.

Rose C Kay entered a hand made quilt…”I get mixed feelings when I create art as the process can bring up a lot of different emotions for me, which I love when making art works.”

My Mother’s Quilt is a reconciliation with the loss of my Mother in 2011. She
was a prolific patchwork quilt maker and would always hide animals in her
work. There is an animal hiding here too.”

Marion Mikkelsen sums up her Favourite Things with this poem…

The Kookaburra’s song before dawn
sunrises kaleidoscope
silver flash of the jumping fish
birds exploring and feeding
in my yard
lizards lazing in the sun
darting away when I come by
trees dancing in the breeze
ripples on the water
frog’s sonata in the evening
harvesting food from my garden
these are a few of my favourite things.
This is my space
MY TRANQUILITY

Marion’s Tranquility is acrylic on canvas…

Other artists to enter in 2022 are Peter Larsen, Therese Gabriel Wilkins, Trena Lowe and Susie Linigen.
